Food City inks 20-year deal with Mimms Enterprises

Thursday, March 27, 2008 - ATLANTA — (March 23, 2008) — Grocery chain Food City has signed a 20-year lease with Roswell, Ga.-based Mimms Enterprises for 44,032 square feet in the 225,000-square-foot shopping center The Market at Town Creek, in Lenoir City, Tenn. This marks the kick-off tenant for the development.

The Market at Town Creek, with Phase I expected to be completed this fall, serves as a gateway to a master development called Town Creek, which is located just off of I-75 and Highway 321. When built out it will have at least five components: The Market at Town Creek (regional shopping center), a medical facility, a residential mixed-use community, a commercial property, and a big-box development.

“Town Creek will make a huge economic impact on Lenoir City and Loudon County,” said Lenoir City Mayor Matt Brookshire. “It will bring in more property and sales taxes, and entice more visitors to our community.”

“We are looking forward to adding a unique blend of national, regional and local retail tenants, as well as numerous jobs to the city with this development,” said Brad Shoemaker, Director of Marketing, Mimms Enterprises. “People will have the conveniences of a big city in a small-town setting.”

“We have certainly enjoyed serving the Lenoir City area residents through our existing location and we’re very excited to be bringing a new state-of-the-art Food City to the new Market at Town Creek development,” said Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.

Mimms and Food City handled the lease directly. Mimms is currently working with John Forster of The Shopping Center Group, in Nashville, and Keith Widmer of First Commercial, in Knoxville, to lease the remainder of The Market at Town Creek. They’re targeting local retailers, a national soft goods retailer, a national office supply retailer and a national pet retailer.

“Our existing location will close immediately preceding the opening of the new store,” said Smith. “We anticipate hiring around 75 new associates and of course, our current associates will be transferred to the new location as well.”

Headquartered in Abingdon, Virginia, K-VA-T Food Stores operates 96 retail food outlets throughout the tri-state regions of Southeast Kentucky, Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.
