CITY SIGNS CONTRACT TO FINALIZE DEAL FOR RELOCATION OF ANNE FRANK IN THE WORLD: 1929-1945 EXHIBIT
December 9, 2009— Mayor Eva Galambos, Councilmember Dianne Fries, District 2 and officials from the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust met on December 9, 2009 to sign and finalize the deal to relocate the Anne Frank Exhibit to the City of Sandy Springs. The campaign to move the exhibit to the City from its downtown Decatur location began nearly six months ago.
According to Dianne Fries, Councilmember, District 2, the City was also seeking a place to house a Welcome Center and felt the exhibit would be a perfect match to the new Welcome Center location. Fries approached Mimms Enterprises about a partnership with the Anne Frank Exhibit and the space was generously donated to the Exhibit. Both will be located in the Parkside Shops Shopping Center at 5920 Roswell Road, Suite A-209. The exhibit will open in early 2010.
“The Anne Frank Exhibit will be a great addition to Sandy Springs and will bring tourist to our fine City,” said Fries. “This location is fantastic for both the Exhibit and the Welcome Center due to it being so central to the City and how close it is to Interstate 285.”
The City is required to raise $50,000 to offset startup and operational expenses. “I believe this exhibit is will be an endowment for the future. But we can’t do it alone, we need the support of our residents and business owners,” added Mayor Eva Galambos.
